The Virginia Governor’s World Language Academies is proud to introduce its new Japanese Language and Culture Program, launching for the first time this year. This program offers Virginia high school students a rigorous, immersive, and joyful introduction to one of the world’s most influential languages and cultures, while connecting Virginia high school students with global opportunities in culture, technology, and communication.

How to Apply
Speak. Listen. Read. Write.
Students will develop their Japanese language skills through courses that emphasize speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
Communicate, Don't Memorize
The program emphasizes real-world communication. Students will have opportunities to use Japanese in meaningful situations rather than simply memorizing vocabulary and grammar.
Explore Modern Japan
Japanese language learning extends beyond the classroom. Students will explore contemporary Japanese culture through media, design, technology, entertainment, and everyday life.
Experience Japanese Culture
Cultural workshops, community events, and interactive activities will give students opportunities to experience Japanese culture firsthand.
