From the Interim Dean of the College, Dr. Paul Youngman
World Language Academy Students,
Welcome to the Virginia Governor’s World Language Academies hosted for the 15th year in a row here at Washington and Lee University! As a German teacher myself, I am delighted that we are able to host this exceptional program on our campus and to support your journey of language immersion, cultural exploration, and academic growth. You are part of a select group of students chosen for your promise and your passion for world languages. I encourage you to take full advantage of this opportunity—speak boldly, connect deeply, and immerse yourselves fully in the experience. Best wishes for a rewarding and inspiring summer at W&L.

From the Program Coordinator, Dr. Dick Kuettner
Washington and Lee University has hosted full-immersion World Language Academies since 2011 and welcomes aspiring linguists to its campus in Lexington where opportunities for language and culture development abound as part of the daily routine. Having studied the three academy languages and being a teacher of two of them, as well as education studies, I know there is true value in what we are doing here. The full-immersion environment moves the learner to new heights quickly. Take advantage of your time with this outstanding full-immersion program. Allow yourself to mesh cultures with practical language use. You’ll be the winner in the end!
